Greece and Russia will claim the gold medal at the 12th World Women’s Junior Water Polo Championship held in Volos after today’s semifinals of the event.

The former defeated the Netherlands 7-6 in a shocking match in terms of its evolution, with Elena XENAKI (the first scorer of the event) to score 3 goals. Thus, Greece will be in the final match for the second time, 20 years after the gold medal in Prague (1997, 6-5 Australia).

Her opponent in tomorrow’s finals Russia defeated 9-6 the finalist in 2015 and 2013 Spain, and she is also in the world championship finals for the second time since 2009 (14-9 Netherlands).

USA and Hungary will try for the 5th place in the tournament, after their current victories over Canada (11-9) and Italy (4-3) respectively, which will play for 7th place.

In the ranking games, China won 12-11 Australia and ranked 9th, while New Zealand 11-4 Serbia and finished in 11th place.
